Annual Fund

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the beginning of our 2009-2010 academic year at Hawthorne Valley School.

In this time of economic and social disturbance, I am increasingly grateful for my children’s upbringing in a Waldorf community.  Their group of friends from Hawthorne Valley are all involved in artistic and social gestures grounded in personal resiliency and moral integrity supported by their education. They are able to interface with a world full of confusion and divisiveness with courage and imagination, a determination to work toward social justice, and a deep faith in the importance of economically and socially sustainable community.

Rudolf Steiner’s “Motto of the Social Ethic”, a fundament of their Waldorf education says it best

The healthy social life is found

When in the mirror of each human soul

The whole community finds its reflection,

And when in the community

The virtue of each individual is living.

This ethical impulse lives in our greater community of Hawthorne Valley families and friends – an ever-widening circle. What a gift this is!

As our society faces environmental and economic challenges, the Hawthorne Valley School and its resources are positioned at the cutting edge of the new, and we are dedicated to providing the highest quality Waldorf education for as many children as possible. To this end the school has needed to extend its policy of tuition assistance further than in previous years. This places even more importance on building our potential for offering scholarship assistance.

There are many ways to participate in community. Volunteerism is definitely welcome. Your donations to the Annual Fund help to bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the running costs of the school. Your support of our Endowment helps with scholarship assistance and, finally, your wonderful children are our best representatives – tell others about Hawthorne Valley School – help keep our enrollment robust.

Thank you for your ongoing connection to Hawthorne Valley School and Waldorf Education

Sincerely,

Sidney Fülöp
