Nurturing Living Connections, Early Childhood through Grade 12

Puppetry Arts Conference: Healing the Heart – the Balm of Storytelling & Puppetry Arts

The 2nd Biennial Puppetry Arts Collaborative Conference will be led by author, therapist, and storyteller Nancy Mellon, colored light-play artist Katie Schwerin and master puppeteers Jennifer Aguirre and Janene Ping. Participants are invited to apply the themes of healing through the arts to their own work in the world with intensive workshops in storytelling, colored light play, marionette making or creating story set and design.

The creative expression reflected in the art of puppetry embodies a distinct aspect of what it means to be human; human intention enlivens what is otherwise inanimate. As the physical body of the puppet is  “ensouled” through the puppeteer’s endeavor we metaphorically experience how earthly matter is filled with an invisible or spiritual force in order to come into enlivened movement. This is mirrored in the human relationship with destiny and the world. How do we incarnate into this earthly world, take up our lives, fulfill our destinies? How can we help the children we steward to be empowered to do this to the very best of their ability?

This conference, open to teachers of early childhood and beyond, artists, and parents, will be held in upstate New York at the Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, located on a 400 acre biodynamic farm with rolling fields, forests and water ways ideal for restoration with meditative walks in nature.

Participants are invited to bring their own storytelling or puppetry presentation to share with fellow enthusiasts! The conference fee is $425; with a 10% discount for those who bring a puppetry offering to share. For more information or to register, please email Janene Ping.
