Community Wellness Expo

Here at Hawthorne Valley we have the perfect cure for Cabin Fever! Join us for our Community Wellness Expo, on March 8th from 10 am to 2 pm. If you are interested in hands-on experiences or want more information on alternative wellness choices, this is the place to be. Try yoga, spatial dynamics, acupuncture, tai chi, zumba or talk with a life coach or stress management expert, learn about micronutrients and lacto fermented foods, and much more!* Local wellness experts will be sharing their knowledge and talents with all who participate. You will have the opportunity to try these activities, so be sure to wear workout clothes! Whether you are interested in wellness alternatives for exercise, eating, or living, there is something for everyone.

All net proceeds will benefit the Agape Place Based Learning Fund in support of programs for children at the Hawthorne Valley Place Based Learning Center. Our programs are designed to bring children closer to nature, each other, and themselves. Through hands-on, experiential learning, our programs are designed to give children the knowledge they need to make healthy food choices and provide them with the tools to develop their skills and to build healthy communities. We seek to serve all our surrounding communities and accept all children, regardless of their ability to pay. This Fund helps us fulfill that goal. Visit our website for more information.

Betsy Cashen is a Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian who provides nutrition education and counseling, cooking demonstrations, and shopping and foraging tours for people of all ages.

Betsy seeks to integrate the best of modern science with the wisdom of traditional foodways, and she is co-leader of the Columbia County chapter of the Weston A. Price Foundation which promotes a diet of nutrient-dense foods, and honors the insight and food practices of traditional cultures.

David Haines is a practitioner and teacher of Tai Chi/Qigong as well as a practitioner of the Trager Approach. He is the author of the best selling DVD “Twenty Minute Body/Mind Routine” and is on the staff of Omega Institute. He will be giving a sample class of his innovative approach to moving with profound ease that is accessible to all levels of fitness. He will also be available to give short samples at his booth.

Andrea Elliott is a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese speaker and certified Chinese herbalist. She has pursued the study of Chinese medicine from Seattle to Sichuan and currently practices in Hudson, NY. Elliott Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine offers acupuncture, cupping, gua sha and Chinese Herbal formulas in the treatment of a wide variety of ailments and conditions.

Danica Wolkiser, LMT, NCTMB

Danica, a Waldorf graduate and eurythmist, has also been a licensed massage therapist since 1990, practicing various styles of massage including Swedish, deep tissue, shiatsu, acupressure, reflexology, and reiki, and combinations of them. She is owner of Morning Star Healing and Massage, a private practice, with offices in Chatham and Philmont, and she offers home visits and chair massages too. She will offer samples of relaxing and therapeutic chair massage at her booth and will also be available to answer your questions.
