EARTH Program Internship
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School's EARTH Program offers an intern the opportunity to gain experience and skills through active participation in the growth and development of a farm-based education program. An Intern at the EARTH Program will participate in all aspects of the programming, thus gaining familiarity with Waldorf, place-based and farm-based education, including but not limited to work with: gardening, craft, cooking and animal care. The intern in return, will offer valuable help in the areas of research, administration, program development and implementation of the various program activities. By the end of the EARTH internship, an intern will have gained skills toward being able to fill both administrative and teaching roles in an agricultural education program.
The EARTH Program intern reports to the Head Teacher for the EARTH Program and works collaboratively with all EARTH program staff members.
Principal Responsibilities
- To be present when needed and be willing to assist in any of the tasks necessary for the preparation and implementation of activities and projects of the EARTH Program.
- To participate when needed in planning for these activities.
- To be willing to assist with the creation of lesson plans, infrastructure, and promotional materials for the program.
- To take notes at staff meetings and prepare copies for approval.
- To conduct research in the areas of grants and program development, under the guidance of the Head Teacher.
- To assist in activities of the Farm & Arts program when asked, under the supervision of the Farm & Arts Coordinator.

Remedial Specialist
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, a nursery-12th grade Waldorf School located in the beautiful Hudson River Valley region in Ghent, NY, is seeking a part time learning specialist for the 2013-14 school year.
The successful candidate will have a BA or BS degree and specialized training in one or more areas of remedial work from an accredited program. An MA in education is preferred. Examples of useful training modalities include: Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, and the equivalent in the area of mathematics. A Waldorf remedial training is also an excellent credential. The position includes a responsibility for some individual math and reading tutoring work as well as coordination and evaluation of students’ needs. Some evaluations will be accomplished by other specialists. Extensive familiarity with the Waldorf education curriculum and pedagogical model is critical.
Enthusiasm for working with a range of students in pre-k to high school from a variety of backgrounds is key. This position requires flexibility and the ability to teach children of a variety of ages.

Lower School German Teacher
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a part-time, lower school, German language teacher for the 2013-2014 school year.
Candidates should have strong German language skills and enthusiasm for continuing a successful German language program in our school. This position requires flexibility and the ability to teach children of a variety of ages.

High School Language Arts Teacher
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a High School language arts teacher for the 2013-2014 school year. The position is part time with the possibility of full time if combined with a house parent responsibility. We serve 65 high school students.
Candidates should have strong high school English teaching background. Some history teaching skills would also enhance the candidates' profile. This position requires flexibility and a strong commitment to teaching adolescents.

Residential House Parent
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a residential house parent for our new boarding program. The individual might combine this position with one of the available teaching positions (math, language arts, German, or eurythmy) or the individual could have outside employment which permit performing the house parent duties. This is available for the 2013-2014 school year.
Candidates should have strong interest in high school students and preferably teaching, coaching, or boarding house experience. The student population includes international students and multi-cultural sensitivity is important. This position requires flexibility and a strong commitment to teaching adolescents.

High School Eurythmy Teacher
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a high school eurythmy teacher for the 2013-14 school year.
Located in the historic Hudson River Valley, our school is ideally situated on a 400-acre biodynamic farm surrounded by beautiful views of the nearby Catskill and Berkshire Mountains. Both natural beauty and cultural riches surround us, providing wonderful opportunities for our students, families and teachers. The school is 2.5 hours north of New York City.
The school is a branch of the Hawthorne Valley Association, which supports several Anthroposophical initiatives including the farm, the Alkion Waldorf teacher-training program, Adonis Press, a visiting student program and an organic store and bakery. The local area abounds with additional initiatives including the Rudolf Steiner Library, the Christian Community Church and the Berkshire-Taconic Branch of the Anthroposophical Society. Our diverse student body includes the children of co-workers from two nearby Camphill communities.

Faculty Chairperson
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is seeking a full-time faculty chairperson. The position is currently filled on an interim basis and candidates will be considered for the permanent position beginning immediately.
The general responsibilities of this position: The Faculty Chairperson serves as the educational leader responsible for supervising the faculty in their teaching and non-teaching responsibilities and must have a thorough understanding of the policies, regulations, and procedures to assure a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment that meets the standards of Waldorf education and serves the particular mission of Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School. All faculty report to this position and the Faculty Chair is responsible for evaluation of faculty through classroom visits and individual work with teachers as well as obtaining outside evaluations when necessary. The FC also is responsible for addressing all parent concerns regarding curriculum and faculty. The FC is the expert on the school’s curriculum and represents Waldorf education to the parents. The position reports to the Executive Director of the Hawthorne Valley Association. This position entails a year ‘round work schedule with occasional weekend and evening commitments.
