Waldorf Education

Why Waldorf Works
Founded in 1973, Hawthorne Valley School is part of the worldwide Waldorf movement. The high school curriculum at Hawthorne Valley offers a unique opportunity for a practical, aesthetic, and academic education.

True education requires the harmonious integration of the fundamental human capacities of thinking, feeling, and willing.  Its goal is to develop the free individual, whose thinking is clear, vital, and creative; whose feeling is imbued with compassion, courage, reverence for life, and enthusiasm for learning; and whose will is practical, capable, and active.

The curriculum of a Waldorf school is based on the developmental stages of the young person.  Out of each teacher’s own initiative and sensitivity, the subject matter is shaped to make it come alive, so that the lesson suits the background, ability, and individual qualities of a class.  Such freedom affords the teachers great challenge and stimulus.

The goal of Waldorf education is to develop the full creative potential of each individual.

We encourage you to visit Why Waldorf Works, sponsored by AWSNA, Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, for more information about this remarkable educational model.
