12th Grade
Twelfth Grade: World Consciousness
Twelfth graders gain perspective in their thinking. From their newfound sense of individuality, they are capable of finding their place within the community. Their consciousness of self grows into a world consciousness. They are able to use their powerful thinking to see the world from many vantage points and, at the same time, recognize their own. As they begin to understand the complexity of the world, they need to understand the individual’s responsibility for working with society’s issues. In this way, the students will define their own standpoint in the world, make judgments, and define their ideals.
Main Lesson Curriculum
The academic focal point of a Waldorf high school is the main lesson, a two-hour concentrated lesson at the beginning of each school day. Each main lesson block presents one of the “core subjects”: literature, mathematics, history or natural sciences, for a period of three to four weeks.

Practicum
High school students participate in a one-week practicum each year. This activity meets the group developmentally, reinforces the curriculum, and provides experiences that will carry the students into the future.
Following their extensive work on individual senior projects, Grade Twelve uses their practicum week to band together and begin work on their Senior Play. It is a time of great reflection as they examine themselves in light of their peers, of the characters they will portray, and in light of who they once were and who they have become.
Arts Courses
Each student takes four hours per week in the fine and practical arts. All students take part in chorus, which meets regularly each week. Thirty hours of community service are required of students in grades 9-11.
